Search Engines Soon Ready To Reveal Flash Content

Adobe has just announced that they are teaming up with search industry leaders, Google and Yahoo, to dramatically improve search results of dynamic Web content and rich Internet applications. This new search engine solution is essentially a special version of the Flash Player which enhances search engine indexing of the SWF file format.

What this means for the average Flash user and their clientele is that this new advancement will uncover information that is currently undiscoverable by search engines. This will also provide more relevant automatic search rankings of the millions of RIAs and other dynamic content that run in Adobe Flash Player. Fun times with Flash content and search engine optimization are finally right around the corner.

In a Flash Website, if you just need two or three “alone” buttons for your site navigation you can simple design them and place it in the stage. Or, to be more elegant, you can make an array in as3 and place them in the stage too. However, if you are creating a dynamic Flash site you will need to create a dynamic navigation to it. One of the chance to achieve this goal is by using a XML file. The following tutorials shows you how to do it.

This tutorial covers how to create a dynamic Flash XML navigation menu using Actionscript 3.0 and XML. Each button has a roll over and roll out animation. Control the click throughs, button titles and the total number of buttons with the external XML file. Once the Flash file is created you can update the menu just by editing the XML file.

Kuler update

A big Kuler update - color picking made easy

The team working on Kuler has done it again. Recently, the group updated the AIR version of the application and added some new features. If you're tired of spending time trying to pick some great colors for your next design, you should read on.

John Nack already mentioned the Kuler application, but it is definitely worth mentioning again. In case you haven't heard about it, it's a wonderful community application that will help you pick collections of colors. The new AIR version adds the ability to push the selected color swatches to a specific application like Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. So, if you haven't given this nifty little application a try, download it today. Or...if you're a crazy color picker, you might even submit a few for the rest of us!

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 1.3 Export SDK

Welcome to the Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom™ Export SDK preview release on Adobe Labs. This public prerelease provides a Software Development Kit that will allow developers to enable communication from the Lightroom 1.3 Export Dialog to third party tools, web sites or devices. Using the SDK and an IDE of your choice will allow you to create Export plug-ins that further streamline the photographic workflow. This SDK, based on the open source Lua language, includes plug-in sample code for a Flickr and FTP plug-in that demonstrate how to extend the Export dialog interface for specific tasks.

The Lightroom Export SDK preview is the Lightroom product team's first opportunity to engage the developer community. While this preview SDK functionality is limited to the Export dialog, the discussion should be expanded to include any functional area that a developer would like to build upon.

Now AIR applications can drive the Creative Suite!

In 2007, Adobe announced Adobe AIR™ - the Adobe Integrated Runtime - for creating stand-alone web applications based on the web standards of HTML, Flash®, and Ajax. The AIR environment allows developers to create dynamic, appealing, cross-platform applications. Now, with the Adobe technology code named SwitchBoard, AIR applications can communicate with applications in the Adobe Creative Suite®.

Adobe AIR developers can create applications that participate as first class citizens in creative workflows. Each SwitchBoard solution consists of an AIR application written for SwitchBoard, JavaScripts, and the SwitchBoard service that delivers the scripts to the Creative Suite applications. AIR developers only need to include a Flex library called SwitchBoard.swc in their projects in order to send and receive scripts to and from Creative Suite applications.

SwitchBoard brings together the power of the automation in the Creative Suite applications with the potential for third parties to extend the creative process with new applications produced using AIR. The result is an extensible, powerful, cross-platform environment that can quickly adapt to today's rapidly changing creative workflows.

Windows and Vista

Uninstall prior versions of SwitchBoard before installing a new version. Choose “Add or Remove Programs” from the Control Panel, select Adobe SwitchBoard, and click Change/Remove.
Download the SwitchBoard ZIP file and unzip the package. The package contains a Setup.exe application.
Install SwitchBoard by launching the Setup.exe application.

Macintosh

Uninstall prior versions of SwitchBoard before installing a new version. Double-click the Adobe SwitchBoard alias in the /Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installer folder.
Download the SwitchBoard DMG file.
Double-click the DMG item to mount the installer virtual disk. The virtual disk contains a Setup application.
Install SwitchBoard by launching the Setup application.

After you install SwitchBoard, the SwitchBoard service and the SwitchBoard launcher run in the background.

Installing SwitchBoard SDK

The SwitchBoard SDK contains:

SwitchBoard.swc enables AIR applications to communicate with Creative Suite applications.
AIRSend is a sample AIR project that sends scripts to Creative Suite target applications and waits for results and errors.
InDesign Example is a sample AIR project that imports an XML document into InDesign.
Photoshop Example is a sample AIR project that converts an image to a png file.
